[2011 Nov] GPs gave 15,000 children as young as five chemical cosh Soaring numbers of children as young as five are being chemically coshed with antipsychotic drugs, an investigation by Channel 4 News has found. A staggering 15,000 children under the age of 18 were prescribed the medication last year by their GPs – double the number a decade ago.....obody knows what the long-term side effects are and pharmaceutical companies have blocked all requests for data on trials involving children.

[2009] Is the
FDA Bipolar or Complicit in Legitimizing IIlegal Marketing? The FDA
expanded approval process for toxic drugs is unaffected by evidence uncovered
by the US Justice Department showing the studies to be flawed, if not
fraudulent. In February the Justice Department charged Forest Laboratories
with illegally marketing antidepressants Celexa and Lexapro to younger
patients and burying a study that showed suicidal side effects in children. But
the next month the FDA approved Lexapro for depression in adolescents 12 to 17.
In March the Justice Department charged AstraZeneca with knowing and hiding
the diabetes side effects of Seroquel. But this month the FDA considers
expanding the antipsychotic's approvals to depression and anxiety.
And in January, Eli Lilly pled guilty to promoting its antipsychotic Zyprexa
for unapproved and dangerous uses in a $1.4 billion settlement. But in March
the FDA approved Lilly's Zyprexa/Prozac combo, Symbyax for treatment resistant
depression (TRD).

Drugs linked to brain damage 30 years ago
[2009 Oct UK] Doctors under fire as an alarming numbers
of children are given drugs to combat depression and ADHD Over 420,000
prescriptions were issued to children under 16 with attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in 2007 - up 33 per cent since 2005. The number
went up 51 per cent for youngsters aged 16-18, reaching 40,000 in 2007.
During this period NHS guidance endorsed at least three drugs
for ADHD where other treatments have failed, despite fears about side effects
and some critics complaining it medicalises antisocial behaviour.
More than 113,000 prescriptions of antidepressants were
issued to children under 16 in 2007, a six per cent increase over two years.
Almost 108,000 antidepressant prescriptions went to
16-18-year-olds, which was unchanged over the period.
Over 86,000 prescriptions for anti-psychotics - powerful
tranquiliser drugs - were issued to children under 18 in 2007.
