‘O.C.’ and ‘Beautiful Life’ star rushed to hospital
Access Hollywood is reporting that Mischa Barton, star of The O.C. and the upcoming CW show Beautiful Life, has been placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold by the Los Angeles Police Department after authorities received a call from Barton’s residence around 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
When they arrived at the star’s house, they reportedly began helping her with a “medical issue,” and she was placed under Section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code and transported to Cedars-Sinai hospital.
The code says that if a person presents a danger to themselves or others, are disabled or suffer from a mental disorder, that the authorities can hold them involuntarily.
Because of the code, authorities cannot by law discuss what happened, but Barton was scheduled to fly to New York City Wednesday evening for the première of her latest movie, Homecoming.
In the past few months photos have surfaced of the star looking extremely skinny and unhealthy, leading to rumours of an eating disorder and the possibility that Barton may be tossed from her new fall TV show, Beautiful Life.
