VAERS & Hepatitis B vaccine

"As of March 2012, there was a total of 66,654 hepatitis B vaccine-related adverse events reported to the federal Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS), including reports of headache, irritability, extreme fatigue, brain inflammation, convulsions, rheumatoid arthritis, optic neuritis, multiple sclerosis, lupus, Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) and neuropathy. There have been more than 1500 hepatitis B vaccine-related deaths reported, including deaths classified as sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)."

VAERS ID 118402  An infant received the Hepatitis B Vaccine on 1/21/99.  Immediately post vax she went into respiratory arrest followed by cardiac arrest.  CPR was started immediately by a nurse.  The ambulance was called.  The patient was intubated and transferred to a local ER, then admitted for 2 days.  This infant already had a dextroposed heart and micropthalmia.   This infant had received the first Hep B shot on 12/22/98, SKB lot# 2626a2.   This illness was considered life threatening .  It says she recovered.   (Illinois)

VAERS ID 118334  An infant received the DTaP, HepB, HIBV, IPV and some vaccine starting with "R" on 1/14/99.  On the 17th, 3 days later, late onset group B stretp sepsis and meningitis were diagnosed.   He had an elevated temperature two days following the vaccines, which was treated with acetaminophen.  On the 17th he was back to normal, but in the afternoon woke up ashen, with fever up;  take to ER - meningitis.  Prior condition - prematurity (25 weeks)/retinopathy of prematurity. Other meds:  syarages by med-immune lot# 810834 given 1/14/99.   This illness was considered life-threatening, the child was hospitalized for 14 days and HAS NOT recovered.  (Missouri)

VAERS ID 118586  An infant received DTaP, HepB, HIBV and OPV vaccines on 1/25/99.  The next day she had a fever (103.7), seizures, lethargy.  She was hospitalized for one day.  This illness was considered life-threatening.  She has since recovered.  (West Virginia)

VAERS ID 118566 An infant received the Hepatitis B vaccine on 1/29/99.  That same day she became unresponsive, pale, limp; given antibiotics and IV fluids.  Preexisting condition was exposure to beta strep via vaginal delivery (baby, however was one month old when this happened).  This illness was considered life-threatening and she was hospitalized for 3 days.  She has since recovered. VAERS ID 117529  A 43 year old received the Hepatitis B vaccine on 11/9/98.  Her symptoms started 3 days later.  She saw a doctor on the 17th for hepatitis; further testing, including liver biopsy, suggested autoimmune hepatitis; prednisone started on the 27th with marked improvement.  This illness was considered life-threatening and she HAS NOT recovered.  (Minnesota)

VAERS ID 11882  An infant received the Hepatitis B vaccine on 11/19/98.  The next day he developed a fever.  The next day he went to the ER.  He was treated with medicine (not named) and transferred to another hospital.  It says other meds are "Mylicon" - I assume this was prior to this event?  Another Hep B vaccine had been given 10/9/98.  This illness was considered life-threatening, the child was hospitalized, is considered disabled, and HAS NOT recovered.  (Alabama)

VAERS ID 116461  An infant received the Hepatitis B vaccine on 10/21/98.  Two days later, she had sudden onset of hemoptysis and hematuria.  She was taken to the hospital where she required a ventilator.   All testing was negative.  Many saw the patient and none could explain it.   Patient had a prolonged (13 day) stay at the hospital and recovered without any apparent permanent injury.  This illness was considered life-threatening.   (Pennsylvania)

VAERS ID 116746  An 18 year old received the Hepatitis B vaccine on 9/11/98.  16 days later she experience thirst and polyuria;   was diagnosed with Type I diabetes.  She was hospitalized for 4 days.   This illness was considered life-threatening and she HAS NOT recovered.   (Pennsylvania)

VAERS ID 118644  A nineteen year old received the Hepatitis B vaccine on 9/17/98.  3 days later she had widespread pain on the right side of her body, a sinus infection.  A theumatologist (rheumatologist?), orthopedist (two different people?) diagnosed fibromyalgia;  says "symptoms worsen - physical therapy" - I don't know if that means they worse with physical therapy, or that because they worsened, she is getting physical therapy.  This illness was considered life-threatening and she is now considered disabled.  She HAS NOT recovered.  (New Jersey)

VAERS ID 115171  A twelve year old received MMR, TD and HepB vaccines on 6/9/98.  18 days post vaccination he had at temperature of 102-104;  for 4 months he had  a temperature, rash stiff neck, joint swelling and ongoing pain;  he was hospitalized with pericarditis in August w/abnormal ECHO (echocardiogram?) regarding two valves;  diagnosed systemic juvenile enteritis.   Had prior allergy to red dye and bees.  Was taking DDAVP (?).   This illness was considered life-threatening, he was hospitalized for 2 days, now is considered disabled.  He HAS NOT recovered.  (Ohio)

VAERS ID 115019  A two year old received the Hepatitis B vaccine on 9/14/98.  Right after being vaccinated, at home,  he became cranky with temperature.  He was given meds and the fever resolved.  Then he awoke at 10 PM with fever, stood up, fell and hit his head on the TV;  started a seizure; taken to the ER and intubated.  This illness was considered life-threatening, and the child was hospitalized for 3 days.  It says he has since recovered.  (California)

VAERS ID 118449  A sixteen year old received the Hepatitis B vaccine on 10/29/98.  That same day she experienced nausea, cramping, vomiting, hot flashes, headache, shooting pains/spasms in hands, eye pain; patient seen by specialists.  A UGI scope was done a inflammation of the duodenum was noted; bloodwork showed liver damage, a reduction of RBC.  This illness was considered life-threatening and she was hospitalized for 2 days.  She HAS NOT recovered.   (Florida)

VAERS ID 118280  A twelve year old received the Hepatitis B vaccine on 9/30/98.  5 minutes post vax she experience headache, shortness of breath, tight throat and chest.  She was hospitalized for anaphylaxis (one day).  This illness was considered life-threatening.   It says she has since recovered.  (North Dakota)

VAERS ID 115144  An infant received DTaP, HIBV, IPV and HepB vaccines on 6/26/98.  8 days post vaccination, he had a prolonged apneic episode requiring resuscitation with subsequent seizure and neurological damage.   Previously had perinatal asphyxia.  This illness was considered life threatening, and he was hospitalized for 12 days.  He is considered disabled, and HAS NOT recovered.  (Wisconsin)

VAERS ID 122670  An infant received the Hepatitis B vaccine and 16 hours post vaccination died.  She seemed fine immediately post vax, but a few hours later developed sudden difficulty in breathing which resembled confulsions; she didn't breath properly and appeared to be convulsing, and would not burp.   Then went to sleep fast.  Obviously this was a life-threatening condition and the infant did not recover.  (New York)

VAERS ID 114917    An infant received the DTaP, HIBV, OPV and HepB vaccines on 9/15/ or 9/16/97 (text says one thing, immunization date field says another).  She died 5 or 6 days later (SIDS).  Parents requested VAERS report on the 1 year anniversary of her death (says 9/22/98??).  (Washington)

VAERS ID 100355    An infant received the DTaP, HIBV, IPV and HepB vaccines on 6/10/97.  Two days later he died of apparent SIDS. (New York)

VAERS ID 106657  An infant received the DTaP, HIBV, IPV and HepB vaccines on 12/8/97.    A medical examiner pronounced her dead the next day at 1:36PM.  An autopsy to be performed.  (Tennessee)

VAERS ID 106256 A one year-old received the DTaP, HIBV, HepB and MMR vaccines on 12/10/97.  On the 14th, 4 days later, he developed an elevated temperature, poor appetite, weakness.  The next day his temp increased and he was taken to the hospital and admitted.   It does not say he left the hospital, but then says on the 16th, the next day, he was taken to the hospital with increased temp, convulsions, difficulty breathing.  On the 17th, his temp decreased, became unresponsive and unable to communicate.  He died, but it does not say when.   It says he was hospitalized for 4 days.  (Texas)

VAERS ID 108794  An infant received the DTaP, OPV, HIBV, and HepB vaccines on 5/29/97.  9 days later she died of SIDS.  (New Hampshire)
