Borax, regarding how most people know it, is a laundry detergent and insecticide. If you live in the south, you know that putting a little borax and sugar at your door entries can prevent ants from taking over the house. It’s popularly known as 20 Mule Team Borax, a laundry wash booster. It’s also found in hand soaps and tooth bleaching formulas.

In some countries, Borax is used as a food additive. But the United States has it on its banned list. As an ingredient in cooking, it can add a rubber-like texture. In fact, in the Orient, the rubber-like texture is appreciated. The Chinese have been known to use it as a way to achieve that bouncy consistency in their noodles.

Borax is considered a non-lethal chemical. Though science also states that a large amount could be lethal to a human.

EPA has determined that, because they are of low toxicity and occur naturally, boric acid and its sodium salts should be exempted from the requirement of a tolerance (maximum residue limit) for all raw agricultural commodities. (source)

Borax can be mined from the ground, as it is in places such as Turkey and California.

But many believe that Borax is the hidden, and concealed, cure for arthritis. And they believe that pharmaceutical companies have subverted this information as a way to continue to reap financial benefits of shilling medications to arthritis sufferers.

In case you are wondering where this conspiracy starts, it begins with Rex Newnham, Ph.D., D.O., N.D. who himself, developed arthritis in the 1960’s. He claimed that pharmaceutical medications simply didn’t work. At the time, the Dr was working on the science of plant health. As the story goes, Newnham realized that the plants were mineral deficient in calcium and used Borax to help. And following that, he related the science to his own arthritis needs and began ingesting 30 mg of Borax a day. He claims that after 3-weeks, his arthritis has largely disappeared.

Dr. Newnham was largely seen as crazy by the mainstream. Borax carried a poison label on it, causing his rhetoric to seem like lunacy.

And this, my friends, is how the underground Borax movement began. Since then, people have continued to tout its benefit for arthritis, but others have even related it to helping with Osteoporosis and hormone issues. Some believe it resolves candida.

Steve Mabey is one that believes in the Borax cure. And he’s taken to Youtube in a quest to spread the word. In the video, he gives his testimony as to the legitimacy of Borax’s removal of heavy metals and fluoride in the body, as well as its ability to cure his arthritis.

Boron acts as an activator of a variety of functions within the body. It is one of the main minerals used for bone building (study below the video drop). Boron can stimulate estrogen and assist its conversion of vitamin D into an active state. And then the estrogen helps with the body’s ultimate absorption of calcium. This is essentially bone metabolism. Born is a huge player in protecting the body’s calcium stores.

With this in mind, many people, such as Steve Mabey, believe Borax is a miracle cure for arthritis, among many other ailments. His Youtube video has been popular since he uploaded it last January. Here’s 20 Mule Team Borax on Amazon, along with reviews.

So does Borax work as an alternative health cure? Well, we can only go by anecdotal information and make our own personal best judgments. There just isn’t a lot of science, good or bad, regarding humans ingesting Borax.

One study shows that boron is needed for the brain.

Another study for boron’s use in the metabolism.

As a cleaning agent, Borax is proven wonderful. Like something we’d put into our bodies or on our skin? That’s something the mainstream jury remains out on. For Steve Mabey, he seems very convinced and happy with his decision to use Borax as a cure for arthritis.
