Immunised boy has meningitis

A SCHOOLBOY is seriously ill with suspected meningitis despite being immunised under the Government's new vaccination programme. Scott Moss, 15, is in intensive care at Frenchay Hospital, Bristol, with his parents at his bedside.

He became ill a week ago and was taken to the Royal United Hospital, Bath, on Monday night, and transferred to Frenchay for specialist treatment. Scott was vaccinated against the "C" strain of meningitis in December along with other pupils at St Laurence School, Bradford on Avon, Wilts.

Tests are being done to see which strain he has. It is thought he may have the "B" strain or possibly another, less serious, form of the illness.--Electronic Daily Telegraph
