Urgent Action Needed on NYS Vaccine Exemption Bills

Jan 30, 2009
urgent memo from Gary Krasner
to all members and supporters of CFIC

Our religious and medical exemption bills were reported from the NYS Assembly Health Committee and are scheduled to be voted on by the full Assembly.

Now is the time for people and organizations to register their support for this legislation.

Your messages may be mailed, faxed, or emailed.  Or any combination of the 3.  (But you should be aware that a mailed letter is generally more impressive than a faxed message, and a faxed message is generally more impressive than an emailed one.)

FOLLOW  THESE  SIMPLE  STEPS:

1.  Draft a statement that includes the following elements:

(a)  Just write that you support the bill and you want you him/her to vote for it and co-sponsor it.

(b)  Please mention that you are a member of Coalition For Informed Choice (www.CFIC.us).

(c)  You may describe your personal experiences if you wish, such as trying to obtain an exemption, or adverse effects following vaccination, etc.

(d)  YOU MUST INCLUDE YOUR RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS IN YOUR CORRESPONDENCE  (making yourself known to your legislator is the reason you're a member of this coalition).

(e)  At the end of your message, please include the following section of text:

The state coalition that drafted this legislation would like you to answer "AGREE" or "DISAGREE" to the following poll questions:
1  =  The term "informed consent" implies there's a right to withhold consent.
2  =  Parents should have the power to decide which vaccines are given to their children.
I will forward your answers to my organization director at CFIC@nyct.net

(NOTE: If you represent an organization located anywhere in the US or abroad, describe your organization and why you endorse the legislation.  You may also draft your own Memorandum in Support justifying the legislation.  Send your message to the "State Legislative Leaders" listed in the Political Action Resource Section below.)

2.  Please include with your message, CFIC's legislative support memorandums.  They are two documents you can download from here:
www.cfic.us/legislation/religious/CFIC-ReligiousMemo.pdf
www.cfic.us/legislation/medical/CFIC-MedicalMemo.pdf

3.  Address your message to your local Assembymember.  Look up who your member is, and his/her contact info, in the Political Action Resource Section below.

4.  Send copies (i.e. "cc") of your message to the "State Legislative Leaders" listed in the Political Action Resource Section below.

5.  If you're going to email your message, then please "blind copy" me (cfic@nyct.net).

6.  Your done.

(note to people supporting our philosophical exemption bill.  There will be a separate post on this soon.  Prime sponsor Assemblyman Marc Alessi is currently waiting for the bill to be vetted by the bill drafting committee.)
