BELLARY: About 35 children have fallen ill after administration of brain
fever vaccine and are being treated in a hospital here on Friday.

The children, who were vaccinated in St Joseph's vaccinating site in
Cantonment area yesterday, suffered from fever, nausea, head ache and
difficult in breathing, following which they were rushed to hospital.

Nearly three lakh children in the district have been immunised from Monday.
District Health Officer Dr Hanumaiah said that seven children had been
admitted to the VIMS hospital as in-patients. Their condition was normal.
The reason for the sudden development was yet to be investigated, he added.

Dr Abdulla, in-charge of the immunisation project said that the sudden
deterioration in health after the vaccination was not related to the
immunisation process, but only due to fear factor. Older children above 13
years of age were the ones who were more affected. Those hospitalised would
be discharged soon, he added.
