North Wales paedophile ring

[Hague set up the Waterhouse Inquiry in 1996 when he was Welsh Secretary under John Major. The report eventually found no evidence of a paedophile ring in North Wales care homes, despite the testimony of hundreds of victims.  At least 650 victims were horribly abused physically and sexually in nearly 40 care homes over 20 years.  Plenty of evidence in MI5 files.]

A MASON-FREE ZONE? The three members  of the North Wales Child Abuse Tribunal were asked to consider setting up a register of freemasons involved in the hearings. They refused.

[2012 Nov] Award-winning journalist who helped expose the North Wales child abuse scandal calls for a proper police investigation   On Friday night a victim of the North Wales children's homes abuse scandal told BBC Newsnight he was prostituted in care by a senior Tory politician. Steven Messham, now 51, had first publicly named this man 15 years ago at Sir Ronald Waterhouse's 1997 judicial inquiry into the care scandal. But the Press was barred from reporting his shocking allegation....Only seven staff were ever prosecuted and allegations against the powerful outsiders who allegedly picked up children outside the homes were never investigated by police or the inquiry, whose terms of reference were limited....At least 16 lads from these homes died in tragic or unexplained circumstances, several after revealing abuse. I vividly remember ringing the tribunal and asking if it would be investigating these deaths.  A very self-satisfied functionary told me it would not be and, when I angrily asked why not, he replied with an almost visible smirk: 'Well, if they're dead they can't give evidence, can they?'....
He claims police failed to put most of what he said about the politician and other man into his witness statement......Like other residents, Steven described being abused by a senior police officer who often visited Bryn Estyn. He sometimes gave him money afterwards...... "In the home it was the standard abuse which was violent and sexual. Outside it was like you were sold, we were taken to the Crest Hotel in Wrexham, mainly on Sunday nights, where they would rent rooms.  "One particular night I always recall is when I was basically raped, tied down, and abused by nine different men."
....Victims say that a key figure in North Wales police was an abuser too and led a cover-up, while social services ignored complaints, victimised concerned staff, and aggressively suppressed 12 increasingly critical inquiry reports.  The outstandingly brave chairman of the council's social services committee,            was threatened by police, the council and their insurers with prison, bankruptcy, libel suits and forfeiting his home if he leaked the final devastating report by John Jillings to the Press.

Wales child abuse scandal

THATCHER'S PEOPLE Scallywag Magazine alleged that MI5 used to take foreign diplomats to Bryn Estyn and other children's homes in the North Wales, give them boys to 'play' with, and secretly film them as they buggered, abused and tortured boys, and then keep the tapes as evidence.  Over a dozen victims who complained of abuse by the paedophile ring 'have met suspicious deaths'."  ...Reportedly, "The magazine alleged that the peer referred to in the article is Lord M..... at the time of the offences ....... of the governing Conservative Party. "Another regular participant in the activities at Bryn Clwyd was alleged by Scallywag to be ....... for years a leading mover and shaker in successive Conservative administrations. "Scallywag alleged that ..... was a sadist with an abnormally large penis, who was particularly violent and without mercy in his treatment of the boys. The magazine alleged that on regular occasions his victims would end up in casualty wards. He was a leading political fixer and adviser to Margaret Thatcher...."The former children connected with this empire of evil who died in mysterious circumstances may have been murdered by the British security services, the price of their silence their lives."

[1997] PUBLIC FIGURES NAMED IN PAEDOPHILE RING   Policemen, social workers and prominent public figures have been accused of belonging to a paedophile ring which indulged in a relentless campaign of physical and sexual abuse in children's homes in North Wales. The names of the alleged members of the ring have been given by witnesses in public sessions of the North Wales Child Abuse Tribunal, but they have been suppressed by the tribunal's chairman, Sir Ronald Waterhouse QC, who has threatened the media with High Court proceedings if they print them.

[2000] Victims tell of abuse ordeal "Within a matter of days I was physically abused and sexually abused and that went on for two years," he said. "I was abused by over 40 people - sexually abused. "As time went on, I realised there were other people involved, there was photographs taken, and I wasn't being abused on my own.  "I tried to complain. I made police statements in 1978 and nothing was ever done about it.  "No one was listening at all."

Sir Ronald Waterhouse, who died on May 8, 2011, he was a High Court judge from 1978 until 1996. He was the chair of a tribunal which, over two years, heard evidence from 650 people who had been in care in north Wales since the 1970s.
